Autumn Style

Autumn Style
So, with the last few weeks of AWFUL weather, I’ve been planning (in my head) what I’d ideally
love to be wearing this Autumn/Winter. Typically though, the weather seems to have made a bit of a change and it is actually Sunny today. Yay!
(We are just getting ready to race on down to the beach before it disappears.)
I love this equestrian/preppy look.  I think you can’t go wrong – it’s smart but comfortable.  It’s also so easy to mix and match.   The Clarks boots featured, I had last year and they were beautiful, they were too tight on my chunky calves though, so I had to take them back.  This year I am determined to have them and be able to wear them.
Come to think of it, my diet was meant to start MONTHS ago….still hasn’t happened.  Where the hell is my will-power?

Can you tell I am loving the confectionary inspired colour palette for this (so-called) Summer?  These are my favourite Candy Colour finds, hopefully they’ll inspire the sun to get his flipping hat on, get on out to play! I mean, come on!  I’ve just put my heating on…in June!!!  Ridonkulous.

Oh well, have a great weekend!

Mummy-Style

I don’t know if anyone’s noticed, but I have discovered Polyvore, a fantastic outfit (and interior design)building website!  I am obsessed.

Mummy-Style

Since getting my new trainers (above) I’ve been getting back into the swing of buying myself clothes.  Polyvore is a great tool in putting items together and seeing if they work.  This outfit is something I do actually wear (minus that great necklace, oh, and the posh satchel – I have a Primark version) but it looks a lot better in this picture than actually on me.  This lets me carry on the facade that I must look stylish, when in reality I look short and dumpy!!!
Take a look at Polyvore and see what you think.  Beware though, it’s quite addictive and about as time consuming as Pinterest was a few months back……

Yummy Mummy meme

Well, who’d have thunk it?  I (yes, I!)  have been tagged in a Yummy Mummy meme, by the lovely Mrs Jones over at Keeping Up with the Joneses.

I must say, after reading through the other Mum’s posts, I feel very unglamorous, with my lack of posh cosmetics (did you see my bargain bucket post here) and non-designer kids clothes…but oh well, here goes.
Here are the rules:

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Firstly, I clamber over Frankie (and sometimes Eva and Oli as well if they’ve snuck into our bed undetected during the night) and go and switch the kettle on.  I literally cannot do a thing til I’ve had a cup of coffee.  I get the headaches if I don’t – the sign of a true caffeine addict, I’m afraid.  I then get the breakfasts ready, pack the school lunches, lay out uniforms, find matching school socks (a mission) and search for hair bobbles (an even bigger mission).  I then bellow up the stairs for everyone to get up. Phew.

Do you shower daily? Are you a early- morning- shower or  evening -bath type?

After taking the girls to the bus stop and OH has left for work, I ensure the boy is entertained by getting every single car and mega block out of the toy box, put a bit of Fireman Sam on the TV box and leave him to play for precisely 6 minutes on his own while I jump in the shower.  Our bathroom is downstairs and I leave the bathroom door wide open so that I can hear him, so this is not as reckless as it sounds.  Honest.

Sometimes, in the evening, when the kids are in bed and the OH is watching football or playing his guitar, I take the opportunity to jump in the bath with a good book or magazine.  I do loooove baths.

Do you wear make-up daily?

I have to.  I don’t wear much, as I feel I look like a clown when I do, but I ALWAYS put a bit of concealer on, mascara and some lip and cheek stain.  Maybe some eyeliner.  Oh and I always curl my lashes.

What’s in your make up bag?

Well, considering the above, I have a Max Factor concealer, a Jemma Kidd mascara, and a Body Shop lip and cheek stain a No7 eyeliner, and an eyelash curler.  And that’s it.  Boring, eh?

When your having a slummy Mummy day, what do you normally wear?

If I’m feeling particularly slummy and am not planning on going out I either put some pyjama bottoms on and a vest, or my full-of-holes-in-the-crotch-leggings and a sweatshirt.

Nails – how often do you get them done?

Erm, never.  Never have and don’t really think I ever would actually go and get them done.  I file them regularly as I hate long nails and I sometimes put some nude colour on them. Sometimes.

Your top tip for Tired Eyes?

Ohmygod!  I am so paranoid about my eyebags!  I once looked in one of those make-up mirrors in Boots and was horrified by the purplish circles underneath my eyes.  The lighting may have added to their hideousness, but I’ve been mirror-phobic ever since.  If you’ve read before, you’ll know that I often buy random things off of Amazon, and have recently bought a facial exercise book (!), one of the exercises being to squint upwards for 30 seconds and so toning the under eye muscles and reducing bags. Does it work?  Hmmm, time will tell. I’ll keep you posted.

Are you a Starbucks or Costa Coffee kind of girl?

Well, I have a confession to make – I’ve never had a Starbucks!!  How, I don’t know when I’m a coffee addict…But I have had an iced coffee from Costa – once.  So I’ll have to say Costa.

How many Children do you have/want & why?

Once upon a time, I would have said none, but after getting pregnant unexpectantly at 21 with Eva – I had no choice. After her traumatic birth I thought I could never go through childbirth again (my story).

I now have 3 of the lovely buggers and love ‘em to bits.  I also  couldn’t be happier that the OH actually said OUT LOUD and now IN WRITING that he wouldn’t rule out 1 more in the future.

I am absolutely loving our time with the children at the moment, at the ages of 7,5 and 2 – they are sooo much fun and they’re at an age where we finally feel….free. No public breastfeeding, no public leaky breasts, no nappy changing in the middle of a shopping trip/ a meal/or family outing, no toilet training emergencies when we’re miles from a loo, and we can all do things together.  Instead of Daddy taking the older two and Mummy being left with the baby or vice versa.

I can’t rule out the possibility of having one more though.  I just can’t.

Where is your favourite place to shop for Babies/Children’s clothes?

I absolutely love TK Maxx for kids clothes – we always seem to bag ourselves a bargain.  Other than that I love Zara, and for funky tops and dresses I order from Oh! Baby London.  We used to have our own kids clothes shop where we stocked Oh! Baby London and I fell in love with the brand.

Flats or Heels Everyday shoes are?

Flats!  As much as I love a heel, I just cannot endure them for a whole day – they kill my feet.  So, it’s flats for me.  I’m currently obsessed with Superga trainers so have a couple of pairs of them – they are sooooo comfortable.
